The brand was founded Officine Panerai in 1860 in Firenze, Italy, by Giovanni Panerai, a visionary and a hard working man with passion for precision instruments. At that time, most of their watches were being manufactured by Rolex. Nowadays though, the company is headquartered in Switzerland and is using both in-house movement, as well as movement made by one of the largest such Swiss producers.
The collections launched in the last 20 years have made Panerai worldwide known and easily recognizable due to the oversized dial. Because in the beginning of the company it acted as a military supplier, it somehow got its imprint on the following designs of the watch. A feature that is highly appreciated by all the brand fans and not only.
A luxury brand primarily associated with classic appearances, its recent watch models unveil a much greater emphasis put on a more contemporary look. Advanced movement in a mix with high quality materials and precision are just some of the features that make people fall in love with the watches.
Nonetheless, the real icons of the Panerai range are still the Radiomir and Luminor 1950 models. Collectors of the pre-1993 watches, in their search, have even created a movement and website called “Paneristi”.
